Front Assist
The Front Assist emergency braking system detects pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles, giving you a warning in the case of a potential accident or applying the emergency brakes to prevent an impact.
Lane Assist
Lane Assist detects whether your vehicle is unintentionally leaving the lane, and directs you back to the road with automatic steering corrections. If you do cross the lane markings, the system warns you with a vibration in the steering wheel.
Travel Assist
Travel Assist helps you to stay in your lane while maintaining a maximum speed and distance to the vehicle in front.
Adaptive Cruise Control
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) can help you to maintain the previously set maximum speed and distance to the vehicle in front.
Side Assist
Side Assist recognises dangerous situations when changing lanes, warning you with a light on the exterior mirror that shows a vehicle is in your blind spot or approaching quickly from behind.

Pure thrills packages
Take control of the Golf R’s ride and handling characteristics when you select from among six available driving profiles. Set your pulse racing when you press the ‘R’ logo on the steering wheel to activate the ‘Race’ driving profile setting. Send it into overdrive when you choose one of two exclusive R Performance driving profiles – ‘Drift’ for exhilarating drifting capability away from public roads and ‘Special’, which has been tuned for the exacting conditions of the Nürburgring‑Nordschleife.

View the Golf R in profile and it’s hard not to be struck by the vehicle’s purposeful 19” Estoril alloy wheels and prominent blue brake callipers. Together they provide terrific on‑road performance and ruthless stopping power.
Motorsport character
Motorsport meets Golf. Decorated with aerodynamic elements in high‑gloss black, the redesigned bumper is completed with a ventilation grille and front splitter. Add in a modern lighting design illuminating the VW logo and the latest generation of the optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, and you’ve got a hot hatch that looks as good as it performs.
Comfort meets performance
Designed for comfort and performance, the interior offers stylish sport seats with integrated headrests for stability in dynamic driving. The multifunction leather steering wheel is enhanced with larger DSG shift paddles, perforated leather and blue steering wheel trim, while the R‑specific elements include door side panels, floor mats and pedal caps.
Area view
Manoeuvre through the busy city centre or rough terrain with even more visibility. Area View offers four cameras discreetly positioned to the front, rear and sides of the Golf that capture the entire area around the vehicle – so it’s easier to avoid kerbs, spot line markings or even see around the corner.
Drive with confidence
If you are no longer able to control the vehicle while driving due to an impairment or emergency, the Emergency Assist activates. If you don’t respond, it brings your vehicle to a stop in order to avoid potential accidents or to reduce their severity.
Park with the tap of a button
Not only does Park Assist tell you if a space is big enough, it also parks for you. Once you decide on a parking spot, tap the Park Assist button and the system takes over the steering.
